The Design Process The jewelry concept is first carved in a special jeweler's wax using small intricate dental and carving tools. It is then encased in a water soluble plaster. The hard plaster and wax design are then placed in a kiln. The kiln goes through a temperature cycle lasting several hours. At the end of the kiln's cycle the wax jewelry sculpture has melted out leaving a well defined hollow "fossil" in the plaster. "Lost Wax" The metal that is to become the jewelry piece is melted by torch with tremendous heat. Using centrifical force, it is flung into the hollow impression in the plaster mold. The metal is allowed to solidify. Once the plaster mold is broken away, the unfinished jewelry form partakes in many finishing steps. After the finishing steps are completed, the lost wax jewelry piece is ready to receive finishing adornment such as precious stones. The piece of jewelry art is now ready for the customers final review.
